Leeds’ best kept secret

Where you may see abandoned buildings and your average city centre, hidden behind the most unexpected of places is a hub of secret bars that are bringing a whole new experience to nightlife. Next time you’re walking through the Grand Arcade, take a closer look at the tailors, pasta shop and barbers, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Probably the most hidden of them all, 7 Greek Street Social can be found on the popular city centre street. Where? Maybe the telephone box isn’t as ordinary as it seems. It’s fairly exclusive because if you don’t call the right number, you’re not getting in.

Now a very well established bar in Leeds, The Domino Club is hidden behind a barbers shop in the Grand Arcade. Once inside you’re transported into a 1920’s speakeasy, with live jazz music and oriental-inspired cocktails.

Domino Employee Amanda Keegan said: “I think that the ordinary bar and restaurant service is giving way to a more casual way of enjoying evenings out. However guests now are wanting something more experiential, and of course, people love the feeling of exclusivity.”

“I think we have Instagram to partially thank for this new need to be somewhere intriguing because it really gives people the fear of missing out, and the desire to visit these hidden places that they see on various feeds.”

Below Stairs is situated on South Parade, and its location speaks for itself. The basement, the speakeasy-style bar boasts a list of cocktails crafted with their own individual story behind, table service and complimentary drinks on arrival. Its experiential offerings make it a hub for mixology enthusiasts.

Other hidden gems such as The Maven, Porco Rosso and The Tailors, are all out there waiting to be discovered. Who knows what else you might find on the way.
